Breast Augmentation With Lift: Enhancing Breast Shape in Older Women (FAQ)

The three most common complaints women have as they age are: the appearance of wrinkles, loose skin, and sagging breasts. They realize that their bodies are changing as they age, some more dramatically than others.

Women of all ages want that tight, firm, and filled bustline. Most of the time breast augmentation can achieve that full and firm look, but what about the saggy and droopiness of the breasts? A breast lift can raise and reshape the breasts, and it can be performed with a breast augmentation to provide the best results.

At my Boston plastic surgery practice, I am a breast specialist who focuses on achieving natural looking, beautiful results for my patients. Please request a consultation online or call (781) 237-7700 to meet with me to discuss you breast enhancement needs today.

What Can a Breast Lift With Augmentation Do?

A breast lift with implants is a popular breast enhancement procedure at my plastic surgery practice. It combines the procedures of breast augmentation and breast lift into one session. Breast augmentation alone will not improve the sagging appearance of the breasts, but combined with a breast lift, the breasts will be fuller and raised to provide full sexy cleavage, as you can see in my patients’ before and after photos below.

The first photo is of a 58-year-old woman who was unhappy with the way her breasts sagged and had lost volume in the upper pole. The second and third photos are of a 49-year-old patient who had round, 300cc implants placed in both breasts submuscularly, giving her fuller, perkier breasts.

What Is the Surgery Like?

The implants and breast lift will be done from only one incision and require one to two hours of time for completion. By combining the procedures, you avoid having to go through 2 separate recovery periods, an extremely advantageous benefit for women who need to get back to demanding home and work lives.

Is It Safe To Combine a Breast Lift With Implants?

A study published in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery – Global Open in 2019 confirmed the safety and efficacy of the procedure for all adult women that are candidates for breast enhancement. The study found that complication rates were similar to when breast augmentation or breast lift surgery was performed alone.

Many women even add a tummy tuck or liposuction to their breast lift with implant surgery to address sagging skin and excess fat on the abdomen. This combination is popularly called a mommy makeover.

Who Is a Good Candidate for the Surgery?

Most women are unsure about which procedure is more suitable for the results they want, but a plastic surgery consultation allows for a well-thought-out plan for a successful procedure. Healthy women with realistic expectations are considered to be the ideal candidates.

Oftentimes, women experience loss of breast volume simultaneously with drooping, issues that a breast lift alone cannot correct. A breast lift plus augmentation is suitable for women including those:

  • With small breasts and experiencing sagging
  • Who lost breast volume and experienced stretching due to pregnancy or weight loss
  • Who have always had sagging breasts
  • Who have one breast larger or sit higher than the other

What Are the Benefits of a Breast Lift With Augmentation?

A breast lift performed with breast augmentation can sculpt the breasts into the size and shape that the patient desires. The firmness, corrected position, and volume can all be achieved in the same procedure.

Optimal results: Most women above the age of 35 seek to restore their breasts due to their age, pregnancy, or significant weight loss. Breast implants will achieve increased volume and shape, but the weight will make the sagging worse over time, especially as the skin loses its elasticity. Combining an augmentation with a breast lift will remove the excess skin from the breasts and support the existing tissue and the implants.

A single recovery period: Achieving both goals in one session requires less total downtime by having only 1 recovery period instead of 2. Patients won’t have to recover from multiple procedures and can return to work within a week to 10 days.

Cost savings: Instead of having multiple sessions at full price, it’s completed with one price and one surgery. For many, this provides savings on surgery center fees and anesthesiology charges.

      Hi Jennifer,
Yes, it is definitely possible to remove the old implants, but truthfully, ruptured implants that are 30 years old are not easy to remove.
It’s no problem to place new implants at the same time as removing the old implants. Please give my office a call at (781) 237-7700 if you would like to schedule a consultation.
      Best, Dr. Christopher Davidson
