Your Ideal Implants for a Natural-Looking Enhancement
Board-certified plastic surgeons perform hundreds of thousands of breast augmentation procedures each year, making breast enhancement with breast implants the most popular plastic surgery procedure performed in the United States today. Dr. Christopher J. Davidson stands out among that field as one of the most experienced and highly trained surgeons performing breast augmentation in the Boston area, working with small and large implants, saline and silicone, and a variety of insertion and placement techniques.
No matter the specifics, his goal is the same: to safely and efficiently provide a natural-looking breast enhancement in Boston, MA.
Breast Augmentation: The Procedure
Currently, the most common way to increase breast size is with saline filled or silicone gel breast implants. Boston’s Dr. Davidson has performed breast augmentation with breast implants many times with great success for women of all different shapes and sizes with different aesthetic goals. After your consultation, where he will discuss every aspect of your breast augmentation procedure, he will put together an individualized surgical plan. While you are under anesthesia, he will carefully place the implant either above or below the chest muscle through a small incision underneath the breast, around the nipple, or in the armpit. Dr. Davidson goes to great lengths to minimize visible scars and minimize trauma to the surrounding tissues to ensure the recovery period is as quick and easy as possible.
Breast Implants: Before and After Photos
Breast augmentation before and after photos can reveal what a “boob job” can do. Remember that no specific effects can be exactly replicated from patient to patient, due to differences in body type, implant size and filler, individual healing, and other factors. The images do show a representation of the possibilities.

Breast Augmentation: Recovery
Keep in mind that breast augmentation is a surgical procedure. You can expect to have some pain, bruising, and swelling afterward. These are normal effects and are temporary. When you first go home, you may be asked to wear a special compression bra for a short time to help reduce swelling and hold your breasts in the correct position. Usually, you will be able to return to work in five to seven days after surgery, but should avoid heavy exercise for several weeks based on Dr. Davidson’s recommendation.

Breast Augmentation Surgery
Breast augmentation is among the most popular plastic surgeries available, and it’s no surprise, as the results look more natural than ever. Many women want a larger bust line, and breast implants can give women that figure they desire. The surgery is also useful for women who have misshapen breasts and wish to change the general shape. A surgery like this can provide a tremendous boost to a woman’s self esteem. Stop hiding your bust line under oversized shirts and get the shape you want!
The Breast Augmentation Procedure: Breast Implants
Most breast implants used for enhancement are are filled with saline or silicone gel. Dr. Davidson has performed many procedures using these types of implants, and has had great success using both. Once you are under anesthesia, a small incision will be made either above or below the chest muscle. Depending on what is best for your body type, this incision may be underneath the breast, in the armpit, or around the nipple. There are multiple variations of the procedure, and when it comes to breast augmentation, Dr. Christopher Davidson is one of the cities’ top surgeons.
Saline or Silicone Breast Implants
Because there are several differences between saline and silicone implants, many of our breast enhancement patients are not sure which of these implants will accomplish the look they desire. Dr. Davidson can help you choose which implants are best for your particular breast augmentation procedure. Your breast size may help him recommend whether saline or silicone breast implants will accomplish the results you desire.
Silicone implants are beneficial for patients with limited soft tissue coverage and offer patients a softer, more natural feel. Dr. Davidson can help you decide which implant to choose for your breast augmentation procedure in Boston.
Saline implants are filled after insertion. Once an implant is positioned, Dr. Davidson inflates it using sterile saline at our surgical center.
Your breast size may help determine whether silicone or saline breast implants should be used during your breast augmentation procedure in Boston.

Breast Augmentation Recovery
After your breast augmentation, you can expect to experience some pain, bruising, and swelling as part of the recovery process. There is nothing unusual about these aftereffects in patients who get breast implants in Boston, and they should subside in four to six weeks. You may be required to wear a compression bra in order to keep your breasts in the correct position for healing. Most patients will be able to return to work a week after the surgery, but like all procedures of this type, it is not recommended that they resume any strenuous fitness routine until healing is complete.

What to Expect Following Your Breast Augmentation Procedure
Directly after your breast augmentation procedure, you may feel groggy; this is more likely when you have had general anesthesia, as opposed to twilight sedation. That being said, general anesthesia is typically considered much safer than twilight anesthesia, or sedation, since under general anesthesia an anesthesiologist (MD) is present and monitoring you the entire time. If you experience nausea after you get breast implants, this can be addressed with anti-nausea medications.
During Your Breast Augmentation Recovery, You May Experience Fatigue
In order to heal, your body requires more energy. During your recovery from breast augmentation surgery, you may experience some additional, unexpected or unusual fatigue. You may tire more quickly than usual.
Remain Active After Your Breast Augmentation Procedure in Boston
While recovering from your breast enhancement procedure, you will need to get up and be active. It is important to get out of bed and move around at least one time per waking hour. Staying active reduces the likelihood of blood clots, excessive soreness, and stiffness. That said, do not push yourself; listen to your body. This lack of energy and/or fatigue may last for several weeks.
Your Breasts May Feel Engorged Following Your Breast Augmentation
For about a week after your breast augmentation surgery in Boston, your breasts may feel heavy and tender. In fact, many women compare the discomfort associated with their first days of breast implants to that of when one’s milk comes in, or when one is engorged. Don’t worry; this pain improves remarkably within several days.
Submuscular Placement Specifics
If you choose submuscular placement for your saline or silicone breast implants, they will be placed beneath your pectoralis muscles. Following this type of breast augmentation surgery at our surgical center with Dr. Davidson, many patients experience pressure or a tight feeling in their chest.
Morning Stiffness Is Common Following Breast Augmentation
During your recovery after getting breast implants, morning stiffness is expected. However, once you begin to move around, the stiffness usually dissipates. This stiffness generally persists for one to two weeks after your breast augmentation procedure in Boston.
Pain Medications Can Cause Constipation After Your Breast Augmentation
You will receive pain medication following your breast augmentation procedure with Dr. Davidson. Many times, pain medication causes constipation, so Dr. Davidson may recommend a mild laxative. Typical choices include Colace, senna, and milk of magnesia. It is important to take a laxative prophylactively post-operatively to decrease your chances of developing significant constipation.
Pay Attention to Posture After Your Breast Augmentation Procedure in Boston
While recovering from your breast augmentation surgery, you may find yourself walking as if you are trying to protect your chest by leaning your shoulders forward. This posture can lead to back pain.
Breast Augmentation with Breast Lift
The American Society of Plastic Surgeons reports that breast lift surgery and breast augmentation with implants can safely be performed as a single procedure when a board-certified plastic surgeon creates a customized operative plan in an appropriately screened patient. A society study showed that a combined breast augmentation and breast lift procedure can be safely performed without added risk to the patient.
That said, a lift can also be performed on its own for patients looking to increase the projection of their breasts, but not the volume.
