Dermabrasion Cosmetic Surgery
In Boston, Massachusetts.
Dermabrasion is a surgical procedure that was originally used to treat skin that has been scarred from acne, pox or other injury. Today it is used to treat other skin conditions such as wrinkles, tattoos, age (liver) spots, and certain types of skin lesions. Dermabrasion makes room for a new layer of skin to grow, thus improving your face's contour and giving your skin a smoother, fresher appearance.
Dermabrasion Procedure
While more than one hundred years old, dermabrasion has enjoyed a resurgence of popularity since the 1940's. And over the last few decades, the technique has been further perfected. During the procedure, Dr. Davidson will numb your skin and then remove or "sand" the upper layers with a high-speed rotary abrasive instrument.
Dermabrasion Recovery
For a few days your skin will feel as though it has been severely "burned", but healing usually occurs within 7 to 10 days. The newly formed skin, which is pink at first, will gradually develop a normal appearance. Usually, the pinkness will have faded almost completely by six to eight weeks. You can use makeup as a cover-up as soon as your skin is healed and can expect to resume your normal activities in seven to 14 days. For the first three to six months, you should avoid unnecessary direct and indirect sunlight and begin regularly using a broad-spectrum sunscreen when you are outdoors.
