Q: How can I find a good plastic surgeon in my area?
A: The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery offers guidelines for patients on how to find the right surgeon for you, including checking for board-certification, memberships, facility accreditation, hospital privileges, reliable sources, & cost among other steps. Experience, education, & results matter!
Q: What does "Board-Certified" mean?
A: Being certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery means that the surgeon has graduated from an accredited medical school, has completed additional training (residency), and has gone through a rigorous certification program by passing comprehensive written and oral exams. Board certification means that your surgeon is considered a true specialist in this area of medicine.
Q: What is the difference between "Plastic" & "Cosmetic" surgery?
A: Cosmetic surgery procedures are focused on enhancing a person’s appearance aesthetically. This can include multiple fields such as dermatology, plastic surgery, gynecology, ophthalmology, among others. Plastic surgery often overlaps with the aesthetic goals of cosmetic surgery, however it also includes reconstructive surgery for body defects due to trauma, disease, birth disorders, etc.
